Borrow a human and learn

A bus carrying a library and driving from town to town is nothing new. But in the Kul;Tour (Cul;Toure)-bus you can borrow 20 real, young people. They originally come from different countries than Denmark. The purpose with Kul;Tour is to make dialogue between people at the places in Denmark, where people are. At festivals, in the square, the market place or the town hall square.

As a human library Kul;Tour makes intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding ("Book loans") between young Danish people with another ethnic background than Danish ("the book") and "Mr. and Mrs. Denmark" (" the Borrower"). The dialogue is for free. It will put focus on differences and similarities - mine, yours and ours world. The dialogue will clarify prejudices and satisfy your curiosity. Kul;Tour works for room for diversity, respect and tolerance in Denmark. The dialogues in Kul;Tour are facilitated by an inviting reading room, workshops, ethic rules for borrowing and assistance from real librarians.

Behind the project with the mobile human library and the human books is Henrik and Michael Seeberg:

"The debate about immigrants and refuges in Denmark is in our opinion wrong. We do not talk with each other, but about each other. One of the reasons for this is a very low knowledge between many Danes about people from other countries. With the mobile human library we are hoping to give people an opportunity to meet people originally from Iraq, Iran, Bosnia, India, Turkey, Palestine, Somalia, Greece or Lebanon: Listen to their stories, find out why they are in Denmark and who is really hidden behind their different faces. Integration in Denmark has to be put down on a street-level, where people go about. We do that by bringing 20 young people with a lot of good things on their minds. That is our contribution to the making of greater understanding between people in Denmark and the different ethnic minorities we have in Denmark", says Henrik and Michael Seeberg.

"Kul;Tour - a human library making a difference" is on tour in 7 cities in 5 days in Denmark in August: Toldbod Plads, The Blue Festival in Aalborg (August 15 th from Noon to 5pm), The Square in Esbjerg during the festival week (August 16th from 11am to 5pm), Gråbrødre Plads to Odense Flower Festival (August 17th from 11am to 3pm), Vestertorv in Kolding during Kolding by Night (August 17 th from 7.30pm to 10.30pm), Lilletorv in Aarhus (August 18 th from 11am to 2pm), Østervold in Randers during Randers Ugen2007 (August 18th from 4pm to 7pm) , The town hall square in Copenhagen (August 19th from Noon to 5pm).
